We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees. As an organization that combines expertise developed from the daily practice of immigration law with a deep commitment to advocacy, RAICES is unique among immigration organizations. RAICES not only assists immigrants in navigating through complicated immigration laws, but we also assist immigrants with social needs through case management and providing assistance with housing. COVID-19 Response
Protecting the health and safety of employees and clients remains essential. We currently practice social distancing and encourage masks in all public areas. RAICES is using a phased-in approach to return staff to resume in-office operations.


This position will require working remotely and in-office at the assigned work location. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.


PLEASE NOTE: All employees are assigned to an office location. The expectation is that you live within the area to commute to and from the office as business or client needs require.

The Refugee Resettlement Case Aid is responsible for providing direct ancillary support to the Refugee Resettlement Case Management team by using sound professional judgment and best practices to ensure that resettlement core services are provided in a deliberate, effective, and timely manner to eligible clients while maintaining compliance with established federal standards and requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with Case Managers on all pre-arrival case activities for newly arrived refugees, asylees or parolees, including, but not limited to, housing arrangements and communication with US ties;
  • Completes home safety inspections at the request of the Refugee Resettlement team and/or Program Manager;
  • Conducts initial airport reception and home safety orientation in coordination with the Refugee Resettlement team;
  • Completes clients' applications for Social Security cards, public benefits, and other applicable registrations within the required timeframe;
  • Documents all visits and case activities in efforts to meet with clients as outlined by the Refugee Resettlement team and Refugee Resettlement Program Director;
  • Provides transportation for all newly arrived or recently arrived clients as required, or needed, in compliance with child safety laws and local and federal laws regarding COVID-19;
  • Identifies any needs and barriers and communicates follow-up to Case Managers and the Program Manager, as needed;
  • Assists the Case Management team with completion of case files, sorting mail and documentation, and additional desk duty needs; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School degree or equivalent;
  • 1+ years of experience working with refugee populations and community services;
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and insurance.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in one of the languages spoken by clients: Tigrinya, Swahili; Pashto, or Arabic;
  • 1-2 years experience working in a medical support setting. Experience working with clients to support their medical needs, including selecting a PCP, following up on medical appointments, and enrolling with community medical services.
  • Able to collaborate as a team player with staff and clients;
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of Excel and Word and ability to learn to utilize an internal case management database;
  • Physical requirements may include, carrying up to 25lbs, loading and unloading donated items, standing and carrying items;
  • Comfortable working in a cross-cultural environment; and,
  • Compassionate and patient toward individuals served and a basic understanding of refugee services.
