Salary Range: $42,000- $47,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours: Anticipated semester of hire Fall 2024. 4/4, exempt.

Essential Functions

The Department of Philosophy and Classics invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Instruction in Philosophy, to start fall 2024. The successful candidate will be expected to (i) teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses, and (ii) develop and execute plans for growing Philosophy majors and minors. The Assistant/Associate Professor of Instruction is a fixed-term track (FTT) position with a standard 4-4 teaching load. Candidates with strong proposals for program-growth that will engage our student population in creative and inspiring ways may be eligible for a 3-3 teaching load. The FTT contract is for 3 years, and is renewable.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Philosophy. Area of Specialization (AOS): open; Area of Competency (AOC): open. Evidence of both teaching excellence and ability to grow philosophy majors and minors.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred qualifications: The ideal candidate will be an engaging instructor with teaching experience and with a history of generating student interest, building enrollments, and contributing to department service and community. We are especially interested in candidates who are prepared to teach a variety of courses, including (but not limited to) courses related to Latin American philosophy, religion, science, mind, technology, or social philosophy. We have many other teaching needs. We encourage applicants to examine our recent course offerings and discuss your competencies for teaching less frequently offered courses or potential new courses.
